| NRTA Anne Kostalas blog postings & video About the Newell Region There are lots of exciting events in the Newell region to keep you entertained throughout the year. The winter months have been filled with curling, music concerts, dinners and fundraisers. The Newell Regional Tourism Associaiton encourages everyone to participate in as many events as possible. Two hunting events are coming up, the Chuckar Challenge in Patricia on March 3, 2012 and the Ring Neck Phesant Classic on February 17 and 18. Check our calendar of events for details. For those interested in theatre and music, will have their Homegrown Theatre performance on March 1, 2, 9 and 10 and both the Bassano Arts Council and the Newell Concert series have great line-ups for the first half of 2012. Many of the traditional events will return this coming summer, the Kinsmen Pro Rodeo, Patricia Rodeo and Bassano Rodeo, along with the EID Classic Sheep Dog competition. The Dragon Boat races, Prairie Wind Regatta and Elks Fishing Derby will be at Lake Newell. In August, the Medieval Faire and Earl Taylor Days will provide both fun and educational activities for the whole family. The Newell Region has an abundance of campgrounds in the area, some of which are Lake Newell, Crawling Valley Reservoir and Rolling Hills Reservoir. If you enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, sailing or bird watching there is a place for you here. We also have a wide variety of sites to see including historic and educational as well as a multitude of recreational attractions and events. Some of the sites include The Brooks Aqueduct – a National/Provincial Historical Site, Dinosaur Provincial Park – A World Heritage Site, Bassano Dam, Brooks and District Museum, and the EID Historical Park with a working elevator. Some events that take place each year are the Brooks Kinsmen Pro Rodeo, Bassano Amateur Rodeo, Canada Day Events in various communities, Shakespeare in the Park, Patricia Rodeo, Newell Sailing Regatta and Cactus Pheasant Curling Classic.
